I have a passion for helping people create personal, authentic ceremony that is meaningful and I love performing weddings.  I believe every wedding should be as unique as the couple.  Whether there are 3 or 300 people, a wedding is an intimate event. It should be heartfelt, so everyone is a part of an experience.

I honor all paths. Many of my clients consider themselves spiritual, but not religious and many identify as non-traditional or atheist. I help couples create a spiritual tone with or without the mention of God or an intimate tone that is non-religious and grounded in their love story.  I am happy to perform spiritual unions, same sex weddings, and vow renewals.

Couples often spend an incredible amount of time and effort putting their unique signature on everything from cake to clothes and then sacrifice their wedding ceremony, because they are afraid of cookie cutter tradition and religious practices that do not work for them. As a result, I've sometimes been asked how quickly I can "get through" the ceremony. The purpose of ceremony is to serve people as they mark a special crossroads in life.  It facilitates a transition and helps outwardly show feelings that words cannot express.  A contemporary wedding ceremony can take many forms. It makes use of the couple's unique values and beliefs to help them acknowledge a transformation that has already taken place in their hearts and mark the next stage of their life together.

I am passionate about creating ceremonies that allow people to be present to this kind of wedding.  It's why I am committed to making the ceremony as stress-free as possible. I walk through the entire planning process with the couples I serve. I facilitate the ceremony seamlessly, so there is nothing for them to remember but to be present and enjoy.  I coordinate with the venue manager, DJ, photographer, and instrumentalists. I also help coordinate the bridal party, readers, and check to be sure rings and special ceremony items are in place.

As an ordained interfaith minister, I serve people as individuals and I help my clients on their own path instead of preaching mine.  It is my honor and privilege to serve couples and their friends and family in wedding ministry.  It feels wonderful to perform a ceremony that does not compromise a couple's beliefs or vision.

Wedding ministry came as a complete surprise to me.  Just after I was ordained I was asked to do a wedding for a friend and I loved it.  After being trained by my mentor minister and the certified wedding planner at my spiritual center, I started Ceremonies by Sandy, because I enjoy working with a diverse client base, not all of which are interested in a church wedding.  I perform about fifty weddings per year.  I also perform funeral services and baby welcoming ceremonies that are spiritual, not religious.  I consider my work alternative ministry, a ministry without the dogma most consider "religion."
I first became interested in ministry because I really enjoy teaching adult classes.  I am a true seeker and life long learner.  I find over and over again that the best way to learn deeply is to teach and the journey is so much more interesting.  My favorite classes take people on a journey to a different way of seeing things.

Life outside ministry is also in a classroom.  I have been a middle school science teacher for twenty years.   Thirteen year olds have been some of the greatest teachers and spiritual lessons in my life.  I was one of those kids who asked for chemistry and microscope sets for Christmas, so I love that I get to have a job where it is appropriate to keep Sea Monkeys on my desk, a skeleton in my closet, and artificial body parts in my desk drawer.  I live with my husband of 18 years, two gray tabbies, and my 8 year old grandson.  I love to read, write, cook when I feel like it, do yoga, and play distracting games on Wii U or social media.  I consider time with family and friends a gift and take it every chance I can get.
